THE WORK
Zendy’s sculptural paintings consist of textured, monochromatic color, painted on canvas. Torn, sewn, and tied knots of unprimed canvas are heavily textured giving the work thickness and form. This layering and overlapping of knot elements cause the work to protrude into space adding shadows. The accretion of knot forms, threads, and frayed edges offer texture, linear, and shape relationships. These combined relationships give the paintings a raw and physical presence.

The work is a combination of painting and sculpture, where the knot is both the subject and the medium. The monochromatic color palette allows for the focus to remain on the sculptural aspect of the painting, while the physicality of the work invites the viewer to experience it from different angles, both visually and spatially.
